It was another cool Canberra evening, but fans of Canberra fashion barely noticed. This evening, all eyes were channelled towards the runway for the final night of Fashfest 2014.
Tonight was a Fashfest like no other with a sold out show and an excited crowd ready and waiting to see what Canberra’s incredible designers had to offer. Tonight’s theme was The Visionary - which lead us to believe and imagine things that others cannot see. Tonight’s designers each had visionary thinking- a clear, distinct and specific perception of the future.
Beginning the runway show, and starting the evening off with fine fashion was SWIMWEAR by Yasmin Masri. Yasmin is known for working with urban landscapes and domestic spaces that surround her. Her collection tonight was something truly dynamic featuring black and white colours, digital and graphic printing, as well as an overall grunge-chic feeling.
The much anticipated SZN was next, and guests were not disappointed with Suzan Dloughy’s designs appearing quite innovative, and super comfortable. Tonight we saw a mixture of black with denim, as well as cropped shirt and bottom-matching sets that had a slight 90s uber-chic twist. The face of Fashfest, Belinda Riding graced the catwalk wearing an all-sheer piece, which had guests in absolute awe.
Karen Lee was next and provided us with a variety of very detailed and very structured pieces. Karen’s pieces are known for being well made, as well as for enhancing body shapes, and we definitely saw this during the show. A mix of wool, tulle and sheer textures were used throughout, with the models wearing sleek up-do’s that completely complimented the look.
Next up was All Eyes On You, a brand that creates glamorous women’s wear, featuring elegant, luxurious and feminine elements with a touch of romance. This was certainly clear with the very sexy, very sleek and sparkly garments. What we loved most about this collection was the mixture of both textures and prints. Our favourite? The gold sequinned shirt and floral printed skirt combination that look incredible paired together.
4 Minutes 33 is another innovative women’s wear label that uses design to communicate poetic expression. Tonight we saw sleek silhouettes, big, full skirts and jagged lines.
What was most surprising and amazing about this collection was the way in which models posed at the end of the runway in an almost ‘family portrait’ style look. This gave the audience an excellent opportunity to see exactly what the collection featured, and how each of the pieces related to one another.
Hijab House is a label designed to provide stylish, modest clothing for young Muslim women who are religiously advised to wear the hijab (head scarf). We think that it is safe to say that each of these designs was simply spectacular. Not only were there beautiful hijabs on display, but also loose fitting, non-sheer, long clothing that was designed with a conservative, yet powerful women in mind.
Finally, Corr Blimey was the last designer to hit the runway, and we were certainly impressed. With a sculptural approach to streetwear, each Corr Blimey garment was clearly cut, sewn and pressed with precision. What we loved most about these garments was the gold and metallic covering, as well as military style structure for the women, and sleek menswear.
As a special treat, guests were also shown a showcase of the past four nights of designs, with one piece from each designer’s collection also hitting the runway. This gave us an excellent insight into all the amazing and unique designers that have showcased their designs throughout this fantastic event. Of course, no Fashfest would be complete without an incredible finale, and this sure didn’t fail to disappoint!
Overall, Night Four of Fashfest was one of true excellence. It was clear through talk post-show, that attendees enjoyed themselves, and wished that the showcase would continue on, but sadly it had come to an end. OutInCanberra have loved bringing you coverage of this fantastic event, and cannot wait to see what Clint, Andrea and their team have in store for us next year!
