Race Day Ready

Thursday, 3 October 2013

When it comes to carnival season each year it becomes harder for us girls to decide on what to wear, not only to the big Cup Day- but also to those other race day events such as Derby Day, Oaks Day and Stakes Day. There are so many styles of dress, types of fabric and trends around that you can easily feel overwhelmed when choosing what to wear. Step into the Spring Racing Carnival this season with the help from my fashion form guide. I'll be covering race day dos and dont's as well as whats hot for that ultimate photo finish!

DERBY DAY

Kicking off in true style, Derby Day is considered by many to be the most prestigious of the race days. Black and White are traditionally the colours of choice for the day, as well as elegant detailing. This year women should opt for some monochrome prints and graphic detailing in order to not only look elegant, but pull it off with a bit of flare and personality which in turn will steer you away from looking like everyone else there!
Derby Day do: Stick to the colour theme!

Top 4 for Derby Day:

Review Florrie Dress: $279.95                              Cue Diamond Jacquard Dress: $269.00

Nicholas Lace Wrap Dress: $247.50          Manning Cartell Athenes Dress: $449.98

MELBOURNE CUP

The main event in the race day calendar is Melbourne Cup Day. This is the day that showcases the race that stops the nation, so why not wear a dress that does that too? Cup Day dress sense is all about colour, fun, artful prints and embellishments.
Cup Day don't: Go too crazy- If opting for an eclectic style dress, style it with a simple fascinator so you don't go OTT.

Top 4 for Cup Day:

Nicholas Floral Dress: $370.00                 Sara Phillips Gwen Dress: $450.00

Cameo Dark Magic: $249.95                   Keepsake the Label Dancing in the Street Dress: $169.95

OAKS DAY

Also known as Ladies Day, Oaks Day provides an opportunity for us ladies to show off our feminine side. Think pastels, pinks, lace, and a bit of flair. This is a day for you to indulge in what you're wearing with luxurious fabrics, fun and fancy accessories, as well as an overall ladylike look.
Oaks Day do: Wear lace! Why not? Its known for making you feel extra feminine!

Top 4 for Oaks Day:

Witchery Lace: $169.95                     Forever New Carly Lace Dress: 129.99

STAKES DAY

Better known as family day- Stakes Day is made enjoyable for everyone and is the more casual of the 4 cup days. Stakes Day allows you to relax a little in the way you dress- which means you can be comfy and stylish at the same time with contemporary ensembles.
Stakes Day don't: Wear extra tall stilettos- you'll look and feel out of place!

Top 4 for Stakes Day:
